Private bus fleets of Almaty started buying Euro-4 standard buses, head of Almaty Passenger Transport and Roads Department Vladimir Merenkov told Tengrinews.kz. “Private companies started moving. The Bus Fleet No.4 is purchasing 100 buses, Batu Travel – 300 buses: all these busses are Euro-4 standards,” he said. “They understand that it is hard to compete with the public bus fleet.” He also said that non eco-friendly public transport will be removed from several of the main streets of the city: Gogol, Tole bi and Abai streets. “Instead we will launch 200 new trolleys and upgrade old trams,” said the official. Noise-free comfortable trams will start operating in Almaty. Exact start-up dates are not defined yet. By Roza Yesenkulova
