Tengrinews.kz - The presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Sadyr Japarov and Emomali Rahmon, have signed a historic agreement on the state border between the two countries, citing 24.kg.
The signing ceremony took place at the Yntymak Ordo building in Bishkek as part of Rahmon’s state visit to Kyrgyzstan.
Following the procedure, the agreement will now be submitted for review by the parliaments of both nations. Once lawmakers ratify the bill, it will be sent back to the heads of state for final approval.
According to preliminary information, the leaders of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan may exchange ratification documents on March 31 at the announced Fergana Valley summit.
After the exchange, the border demarcation process will begin, involving the installation of boundary markers and other infrastructure.
The total length of the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is 1,006.84 kilometers. Of this, 519.9 kilometers were defined before 2011, while 486.94 kilometers have been determined over the past three years.
Previously, Kazakhstan and Russia discussed border issues during the 143rd meeting of the joint Kazakh-Russian Demarcation Commission in Almaty.
