Tengrinews.kz – President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has arrived at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, according to a statement released by the Presidential Press Service on the morning of September 3.
On Wednesday, a military parade will be held in Tiananmen Square to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II and in the fight against Japanese militarists. Tokayev, along with many other heads of state, will attend the event as an honored guest.
The military parade at Tiananmen Square is set to begin in just a few minutes.
A grand military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War began in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, on Wednesday, September 3.
Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech and began the inspection of the troops, who were lined up along Chang'an Avenue, the central boulevard. The parade is expected to last around 70 minutes and includes 45 parade formations.
In China, Victory Day is celebrated on September 3 — the day after Japan signed the act of unconditional surrender. It became a national holiday only relatively recently — 10 years ago, during Xi Jinping’s leadership.
