Tengrinews.kz – Speaking at the second “Central Asia – Russia” summit in Dushanbe, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of implementing an interstate program to preserve the Caspian Sea’s water resources, according to Akorda’s press service.
The President noted that countries in the region face unprecedented environmental challenges. Overcoming them requires systemic steps, coordinated decisions, and action at the level of heads of government and relevant agencies.
“In this regard, I propose establishing a Council of Ministers of the Central Asian countries and Russia on environmental issues. Particular attention, in my opinion, should be given to the condition of transboundary rivers and the Caspian Sea,” Tokayev stated.
The Kazakh leader believes that the implementation of an interstate program to preserve the Caspian’s water resources will help address this complex issue.
“The current state of water security is also of serious concern,” Tokayev added.
He proposed developing and implementing a joint space monitoring program using a satellite constellation to provide objective assessments of water resources and agricultural lands, as well as to forecast emergencies.
Earlier at the summit, the Head of State suggested that Kazakhstan and Russia establish joint clusters for deep grain processing and also proposed creating a regional council on the nuclear fuel cycle in Kazakhstan.
