Advisor to President Nazarbayev, Mr. Ermukhamet Ertysbayev, believes that the time has come to reform the political field and suggests forming a bipartisan system in Kazakhstan. “Through accelerated efforts, we could form a bipartisan system within 5 years’ time…one like those in the USA or Great Britain”, he said in an interview for Liter newspaper. He emphasized that “Nur Otan is a genuine political powerhouse (…) whereas Atameken Union of Businessmen could be transformed into a new political force. Nur Otan would be a party of state and political elite, public sector enterprises…while the newly-formed Atameken party would be a party of business community, entrepreneurs…”, he said. “This would contribute to full separation of power and business (…) Nur Otan would be pursuing a conservative policy, while the party of entrepreneurs would be striving for greater liberalization of the economy, the government and legislation. They would be checking and balancing each other”, he suggested. Regular parliamentary elections are to take place in 2012. However, the advisor does not rule out that they could take place this summer.
