Kazakhstan Sports Palace in Astana hosted the opening of the world junior boxing championship, Novosti Kazakhstan reports. The ceremony was attended by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu, Kazakhstan’s PM Karim Massimov, and Samruk Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund Chairman and President of the Kazakhstan’s Boxing Federation Timur Kulibayev. The PM expressed hope that Kazakhstan could host the 2013 world senior boxing championship. In his speech, Dr Ching-Kuo Wu expressed gratitude on behalf of the AIBA to both the PM Massimov and President of the Kazakhstan’s Boxing Federation Timur Kulibayev for hosting such a large-scaled boxing event. Timur Kulibayev emphasized that the junior boxing event is of great importance for Kazakhstan’s boxing: it is the first time Kazakhstan has welcomed reps of 48 countries. Besides, Mr. Kulibayev expressed his gratitude to Dr Ching-Kuo Wu for cooperation. The vent will be held till July 31. Boxers will be competing in all the 13 weight categories.
