Tengrinews.kz – Beginning January 1, 2026, the cost of issuing passports, driver’s licenses, and other documents will increase due to the rise of the monthly calculation index (MCI), which will go from 3,932 to 4,325 tenge. This indicator is fixed in the state budget for 2026–2028, signed yesterday by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Details
In 2026, state fees for issuing documents will increase according to the new MCI.
- Children’s passport (under 16 years, 24 pages) – 17,300 tenge - 4 MCI (in 2025 – 15,728 tenge).
- Standard passport (36 pages) – 34,600 tenge - 8 MCI (in 2025 – 31,456 tenge).
- 48-page passport – 51,900 tenge - 12 MCI (in 2025 – 47,184 tenge).
- ID card – 865 tenge - 0.2 MCI (in 2025 – 786 tenge).
If an ID card is lost more than twice per year, the fee is 1 MCI — 4,325 tenge.
Driver’s license issuance will cost 5,406 tenge (1.25 MCI).
Starting in January, marriage registration will also become slightly more expensive — the certificate will cost 4,325 tenge (1 MCI).
For couples who decide to divorce, the state fee will rise to 8,650 tenge - 2 MCI (in 2025 – 7,864 tenge) — twice the cost of registering a marriage.
Meanwhile, a birth certificate remains free, so parents can obtain it at no cost. However, for a duplicate certificate (e.g., if lost), a fee of 0.5 MCI must be paid, which amounts to 2,163 tenge.
Who is exempt from fees
Some citizens can obtain documents free of charge. These include:
- national heroes and recipients of high state awards;
- mothers of many children with honorary titles;
- war veterans and participants in combat operations;
- persons with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities;
- elderly persons living in social care institutions;
- orphans and children fully supported by the state;
- victims of the Chernobyl disaster.
