Tengrinews.kz — Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at an awards ceremony for media professionals. The President congratulated the attendees on Media Workers' Day and specifically highlighted the significance of the new Constitution.
According to the Head of State, the new Constitution serves as a roadmap for the people, an unshakable foundation for a fair society, and a reliable guarantee of the country's sustainable development.
"The core principles of the primary document are the protection of the country's Sovereignty and Independence, strict adherence to citizens' rights and freedoms, ensuring the principle of 'Law and Order,' and strengthening national unity and solidarity."
Tokayev also elaborated on the priorities enshrined in the Constitution.
"The Constitution identifies the development of education, science, and innovation as strategic priorities for the state. Other key areas include improving public welfare, promoting the values of constructive patriotism and hard work, and the necessity of environmental conservation. In just a couple of days, on July 1, the Constitution will come into force, and Kazakhstan will begin a new era of development. I am deeply convinced that the new Basic Law, acting as a solid political and ideological foundation for the state, will serve the well-being of our citizens for many years to come."
The Head of State declared that current and future generations face the task of transforming Kazakhstan into a leading nation.
"We are the only ones truly invested in Kazakhstan becoming a progressive and successful country. We have no other home; therefore, the most important task for current and future generations is to transform our Motherland into a leading state."
The President spoke separately about the significance of independence for the nation.
"Our descendants may understand and forgive us for certain mistakes—after all, only those who do nothing make no mistakes. However, if we damage our Sovereignty or fail to defend our Independence, our children and grandchildren will never forgive us. Independence is a sacred value that stands above all else for us."
According to Tokayev, peace, stability, and justice are essential for the country's further development.
"However, to preserve Independence and ensure the country's further development, we must first and foremost maintain peace and stability in society, as progress is impossible without them. Justice is the foundation of our state. This concept has nothing to do with dependency or apathy."
On the contrary, it embodies creative labor, the Head of State concluded.
The new Constitution was preceded by a national referendum held in Kazakhstan on March 15. According to official data from the Central Referendum Commission, 87.15 percent of voters supported the new Basic Law.
Two days after the referendum, Tokayev signed a decree on measures to implement the new Constitution. The document itself is set to take effect on July 1—the date the President today marked as the beginning of a new era in the country's development.
