Tengrinews.kz - The National Security Committee (NSC) department for the Almaty region, in coordination with the prosecutor's office, has uncovered and dismantled a drug laboratory.
According to the NSC, a Kazakhstani citizen was detained during a special operation. He was involved in the production of psychotropic substances.
"During the search, more than 15 kilograms of the narcotic substance 'alpha-PVP' and 70 liters of the drug in its crystallization stage were seized, along with 200 liters of precursors and laboratory equipment," the statement reads.
The suspect has been placed in custody by court order. A pre-trial investigation is underway under Part 3 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code ("Illegal manufacturing, processing, acquisition, storage, transportation for sale, or distribution of narcotic drugs").
Further details of the operation have not been disclosed in accordance with Article 201 of Kazakhstan's Criminal Procedure Code.
Previously, the NSC intercepted an attempt to smuggle over 500,000 packs of cigarettes into the country.
