Tengrinews.kz - The National Security Committee (NSC) reported arrests in Almaty and the Almaty region.

It was reported that on November 7, NSC, in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office of the Almaty region and with the involvement of the police, arrested five citizens of Kazakhstan on suspicion of organizing religious extremist activities in Almaty, the Almaty region, and the Ulytau region. Furthermore, based on the signs of involvement in the activities of a banned organization, a measure of restraint in the form of a pledge not to leave was applied to 17 individuals.

"During searches at the suspects' residences, religious literature and other material evidence were seized. Four of the individuals had previous convictions for extremist crimes, and nine had received official warnings about the inadmissibility of participating in the activities of a banned organization," the report said.
