Tengrinews.kz - Three residents of the Zhetysu region have been detained on suspicion of drug trafficking and distributing extremist materials, citing Polisia.kz.
A joint operation by the regional police department and the National Security Committee (NSC), coordinated by the prosecutor's office, led to the arrest of three individuals in Sarkand District for alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.
"Investigations revealed that two of the detainees adhere to radical religious ideology. A search of their residences uncovered a large quantity of marijuana, as well as religious literature deemed extremist, which is banned from import, publication, and distribution in Kazakhstan," the statement said.
A pre-trial investigation is currently underway, with law enforcement authorities working to establish the full circumstances of the case and any potential connections of the suspects.
Earlier, the NSC, together with the police and under the coordination of the prosecutor's office, disrupted the activities of religious radicals in Almaty, Shymkent, and the Turkestan region.
