Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Energy has announced the companies shortlisted as potential contractors for the nuclear power plant (NPP) to be built in Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry's press service, the selection of a supplier for the Kazakh NPP will be made "with consideration for national interests."
"Kazakhstan has completed a competitive dialogue with potential technology suppliers for the construction of the NPP. The shortlist includes Russia’s state corporation Rosatom, South Korea’s KHNP, China’s CNNC, and France’s EDF," the statement reads.
Official data indicates that on January 21, 2025, a Kazakh delegation led by Minister of Energy Almassadam Satkaliyev made a working visit to Russia. This visit marked the final stage of a series of negotiations aimed at evaluating proposals from tender participants.
Earlier, between October and December 2024, similar visits were made to South Korea, France, and China.
"The final decision on selecting a supplier or consortium for the project has not yet been made. It will be determined in 2025, taking into account Kazakhstan’s national interests, international standards, and obligations," the ministry added.
Previously, Almassadam Satkaliyev was asked whether a referendum would be held in Kazakhstan regarding the construction of a second NPP.
