Tengrinews.kz – Maslikhat deputy Kendebai Adambek expressed concern over the current situation with transportation fares in Astana.

According to him, city authorities are constantly lagging behind the flow of information and only react after issues arise instead of anticipating them in advance.

“We’re always behind the information flow. An article appears — we look for an explanation; someone says something — we start clarifying; there’s an information attack — we respond. But why don’t we prevent this in advance? Why don’t we have analysis and expertise?” the deputy said.

Adambek paid special attention to bus and LRT fares. He noted that bus ticket prices are too low, causing complaints from bus companies.

“Subsidies have already been spent, and we can’t provide more. So prices may rise. This situation should have been analyzed earlier. If we run buses at the current rate without subsidies, the fare would be around 350–400 tenge, while now people pay 110 tenge,” he explained.

He also pointed out that neighboring regions have already increased fares, while Astana remains one of the cities with the lowest prices.

“When the LRT was being built, we said right away that the fare would be about 200 tenge. For the new transport to be in demand, the bus fare should be comparable. The logic is simple: prices for both types of transport should be the same. If the LRT costs 200 and the bus 110, nobody will take the LRT. To attract passengers, fares need to be aligned,” Adambek said.

Context

Earlier, a transport blogger claimed that fares in Astana and Almaty should be 500 tenge, arguing that transport companies operate at a loss and current fares don’t cover expenses. However, most users were skeptical of this claim, noting that no calculations or official data were provided.
