Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Defense has established a specialized unit responsible for the implementation and development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the ministry’s press service reported.
The new structure will become a key element of the digital transformation of the Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defense noted.
“The main tasks of the unit are the development and implementation of AI solutions for analyzing large datasets, automating command and control, modeling operational scenarios, and increasing the speed of decision-making in modern military conditions,” the statement said.
The unit will cooperate with domestic and international research centers, leading universities, and specialized IT companies, which will make it possible not only to integrate cutting-edge developments into the defense sector but also to shape a national school for the military application of artificial intelligence.
“The creation of the AI unit is also aimed at developing human resources: officers-analysts and digital technology specialists will be trained to work with modern algorithms and systems,” the ministry added.

Reminder: earlier this summer, President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Defense, where he outlined the priority tasks facing the high command of the Armed Forces. Among them were the digitalization of the army and the use of artificial intelligence.
Later, Deputy Minister of Defense Darkhan Akhmediev announced the imminent launch of an AI Directorate.
“We will soon launch the AI Directorate in the Ministry of Defense. I’m putting together a team. Write if you have suitable candidates. Competitive salary, strong benefits package, and various army perks,” Akhmediev wrote on the social network Threads.
