Tengrinews.kz – Ukrainian diplomat Viktor Maiko, who was appointed ambassador to Kazakhstan on April 7, presented his letter of credence to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev today. A Tengrinews.kz correspondent looked into what is known about the new diplomat.
A letter of credence is an official document that an ambassador brings to another country. It states that the individual is authorized to represent their country and speak on its behalf. The document requests the head of the host country to place trust in the ambassador. When the ambassador presents this letter, it means they are officially accredited as a diplomatic representative.
Thus, Viktor Maiko has officially begun his diplomatic mission in Kazakhstan.
What is known about Viktor Maiko
Viktor Maiko is 65 years old. He holds a degree in journalism and is a candidate of economic sciences. He began his career at the newspaper Znamya Sorevnovaniya, later worked as editor-in-chief at the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs’ research institute, and served at the Ukrainian embassy in the United Kingdom. He was also the first deputy chairman of the board of the company "Interstroymontazh."
From 2010 to 2025, he carried out diplomatic missions in Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, and served as deputy and adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
In one of his interviews, Maiko stated that Ukraine sees the countries of Central Asia as equal partners, and that this principle will guide cooperation with Kazakhstan.
