Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Transport has drafted an order to establish digital passports and IDs as official documents for use in Kazakhstan's airports.
To align with subparagraph 55-4 of Article 1 of the "Law on Informatization," the ministry plans to amend its order titled "On Approval of Rules and Requirements for Screening Passengers, Infrastructure Visitors, and Their Personal Items, Including Carry-On and Checked Baggage."
Subparagraph 1 of paragraph 9 will include a mention of digital documents: "Screening officer No. 1 verifies identity documents or an electronic document from the digital document service for passengers and visitors (in the event of a high ("orange") or critical ("red") threat level)," as stated in the draft document.
Public discussion on the draft order will be open until November 11.
Digital documents were officially recognized as equivalent to paper ones in Kazakhstan in July 2022, after President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law on digitalization development.
The law also prohibits government agencies and businesses from requesting information already stored in information systems.
Earlier, police identified 48 individuals with dual citizenship in the East Kazakhstan region, some of whom were expelled from the country.
