Tengrinews.kz – The National Bank of Kazakhstan will issue new banknotes of 500 tenge and 20,000 tenge with updated designs.
This information was confirmed by the regulator in response to an official inquiry from Tengrinews.kz.
“In the fourth quarter of 2025, banknotes with a denomination of 500 tenge of a new design will be released into circulation, and in 2026, 20,000 tenge notes will follow,” the National Bank reported.
Earlier in 2024, the National Bank announced plans to redesign all denominations from 500 to 20,000 tenge.
The new banknotes will feature designs inspired by the “Saka Style” — an ancient artistic tradition considered the origin of Kazakh ornamentation, symbolizing the country’s nomadic heritage and national identity.
The 500 tenge note will include Saka-style imagery.
The 20,000 tenge note will follow the same cultural design line.
The new series aims to reflect Kazakhstan’s historical continuity from ancient nomads to modern times.
