Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan’s Interior Ministry has warned citizens about the spread of new online fraud schemes involving artificial intelligence technologies, according to Polisia.kz.

How the scheme works

The Interior Ministry said that criminals are using AI to create realistic images, audio, and video materials. With their help, they imitate the appearance and voices of law enforcement officers, bank employees, and representatives of other organizations.

It is reported that citizens receive video calls from unknown individuals posing as police officers, national security officials, or bank security service employees. Under the pretext of detecting suspicious transactions or a threat of funds being leaked, they demand that money be urgently transferred to “safe accounts.”

Scammers also send messages and documents that visually resemble official notices. In addition, they use chatbots and automated services that create the illusion of communication with representatives of government agencies or financial institutions.

The Interior Ministry’s official position

The ministry stressed that law enforcement officers and bank employees do not make video calls demanding money transfers, do not ask for confidential information, and do not suggest carrying out financial transactions over the phone.

“To prevent fraud, citizens are advised to remain vigilant, not follow instructions from unknown persons related to money transfers, not share personal or banking data, and verify incoming information through official sources,” warned Beibit Birzhanov, head of a division of the Interior Ministry’s Department for Combating Cybercrime.

Any facts or attempted cases of fraud should be reported to the police immediately.
