Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev visited a new cardiosurgery center in Astana on June 28, Tengrinews.kz reports. The center is expected to start treating patients in a month-time. “Start-up works are in process for all the equipment. The center has modern equipment that requires additional training for both engineers and doctors. The doctors to work here are around 30-years-old, most of them studied under Bolashak scholarship program abroad. Besides, the center’s equipment requires special staff and we have employed such staff,” Chairman of National Scientific Cardiosurgery Center Yuriy Pya said. According to the Chairman, the new center will provide both free surgeries along with quotas and paid surgeries. The surgeries will be mostly free-of-charge. The plan is that the center will offer no-cut implantation of prosthetic valve, surgeries on congenital heart disorders and other unique surgeries. Cardiosurgery center will be able to fit in 180 patients. Introduction of 20 innovative medical technologies of surgical correction of congenital and evoked diseases is planned in the center in 2011-2014. The new center is the sixth and final facility of the medical claster. It should become the brand of the country’s cardiosurgery. The average of 3 thousand surgeries a year are expected to be made in the new center. Currently 13.5 thousand adults and 2.5 thousand children need open-heart surgeries in Kazakhstan. Over 4.5 people including 1.5 thousand children were operated in 2010. By Assel Satayeva
