Tengrinews.kz – A Kazakh citizen asked whether banknotes with a denomination of 3,000 tenge are planned to be issued in the near future. The National Bank’s press service responded to her inquiry.
The question
A resident of Kazakhstan reached out with a question about the introduction of new banknotes.
“Prices are rising so quickly now. It would be convenient if we had a 500 tenge coin and a 3,000 tenge banknote. Are there any plans for this?” she asked.
The National Bank’s response
We contacted the press service of the National Bank for comment. According to the law, the denomination structure of banknotes and coins is determined by the National Bank.
Decisions to issue new banknotes or coins are made based on the economic situation, market needs, and the security and efficiency of payment systems.
“As of today, the existing denomination range of the national currency fully corresponds to the current price level in the economy. There is no need to issue new denominations at this time,” the National Bank stated.
The National Bank also clarified that information about the issuance of new banknotes and coins, including commemorative and collectible ones, is published in the media.
