Tengrinews.kz - Starting April 5, 2025, mopeds in Kazakhstan will officially be classified as motor vehicles, according to Polisia.kz.

This means that moped owners will be required to follow certain procedures and obtain the necessary documents, including:

  • Registration with the police
  • A driver’s license of category A1, A, or B
  • A technical inspection
  • Civil liability insurance

To register a moped, owners must visit a special Public Service Center in their place of residence and provide the following documents: an identity card (electronic format is allowed) and technical documentation or specifications of the moped.

The process includes filling out an application, passing a moped inspection, and paying the necessary state fees.

"It is important to note that starting April 5, operating an unregistered moped or riding without a valid driver’s license will be prohibited. We strongly recommend registering your moped and obtaining the necessary license to avoid violations," said Arai Tolegenkyzy, Senior Inspector of the Administrative Police Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Recall that President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed amendments to the law "On the road traffic" and the Administrative Code on October 3, now moped drivers must have a driver's license of subcategory A1. From April 4, 2025, moped drivers will be prohibited from driving without a driver's license and state registration plates. This innovation applies to all mopeds, including those whose maximum design speed does not exceed 50 kilometers per hour.
