Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan commented on the petition launched by Kazakhstani citizens to abolish mandatory military service.
In response to an official inquiry from Tengrinews.kz, it was stated that according to Article 36 of the Constitution, "defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall be a sacred duty and responsibility of every citizen."
"During their time in the army, conscripted servicemen undergo combat training in accordance with military specialties. They acquire the necessary skills in combat, physical training, and military service. After discharge, they are registered as military-trained reserves. The military-trained reserve, which consists of citizens with military training skills, is one of the elements of state defense and its mobilization resource. In the event of a military threat, they will carry out tasks to ensure the defense of the state," the Ministry of Defense reported.
The ministry also noted that, according to Article 90-1 of the Administrative Procedural and Process-Related Code, defense matters cannot be the subject of a petition.
"This initiative threatens the country's security," the ministry stated.
