Tengrinews.kz - The ethno-memorial complex “Atameken” in central Astana is being dismantled, according to a post by the urban research platform Fading TSE on Instagram.

The author of the post wrote that those who had recently walked through the old dendropark or along the alleys of Central Park may have seen "large models of Kazakhstan’s landmarks being removed from Atameken."

"Some of the models were taken away by staff from the Directorate of United Museums, while others — including the Almaty Circus, the Ascension Cathedral, and the monument to the founders of the Kazakh Khanate — were left in a pile like discarded memories. Just a year ago, families and tourists were strolling through here, children were running around the Shakpak Ata mausoleum and the Caspian Sea, and in nearby yurts, visitors were being treated to baursaks. There was life. Now — silence and overgrowth,” the post reads.

According to the author, a notice on the city administration’s website stated that a multifunctional Palace of Schoolchildren would be built on the site of the “Atameken Map of Kazakhstan” complex, which has been declared unsafe.

“Calling something ‘unsafe’ is an old Astana tale as old as time. That’s exactly how the Central Stadium and the Kazakhstan Sports Complex were once ‘renovated.’ We all know how that ended,” the author added.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport announced that a large-scale transformation of Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport and its surrounding area is planned in the capital of Kazakhstan.
