Tengrinews.kz – The Cybercrime Counteraction Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the National Security Committee, has dismantled a criminal group engaged in the illegal sale of Kazakhstani citizens’ personal data online.

This was reported by the website Polisia.kz on Monday, June 9.

According to Zhandos Suyinbay, head of the Cybercrime Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the data was obtained from government databases and distributed via Telegram channels, including being shared with certain debt collection agencies.

“More than 140 people have been detained, including company owners and channel administrators. Currently, five individuals have been arrested,” he specified.

He added that during searches of collection agencies, law enforcement officers seized over 400 computer and other electronic devices.

Criminal cases have been initiated under the following articles of the Criminal Code:

  • Article 205, Part 3 (“Unauthorized access to information”),
  • Article 147, Part 5 (“Violation of privacy and personal data protection laws”),
  • Article 211, Part 3 (“Illegal distribution of restricted-access electronic resources”).

“The investigation to identify all individuals involved is ongoing,” Suyinbay noted.

The ministry assured that it will continue targeted efforts to prevent personal data leaks and suppress illegal activities that violate the digital security of citizens.
