Tengrinews.kz – School cafeteria workers have been convicted in connection with the mass food poisoning of children in the Mangystau region, citing the regional prosecutor's office.

During the investigation of the poisoning incident at Secondary School No. 8, it was revealed that cafeteria staff had been working without valid medical certificates.

"The Munaily District Court sentenced four school cafeteria workers to criminal penalties in the form of fines," the statement said.

The court rulings have entered into legal force.

The incident occurred at School No. 8, where first- to fourth-grade students in the morning shift suffered from mass food poisoning in the cafeteria. A total of 466 students were affected, with 98 hospitalized, including two in intensive care. All children were later discharged from the hospital.

Experts from the Department of Sanitary and Epidemiological Control and the National Center of Expertise in the Mangystau region conducted an inspection of the mass poisoning incident. Serious sanitary violations were found in the school cafeteria. Pathogenic bacteria were detected in food samples, with 20 percent of swabs showing the presence of intestinal bacteria. Six cafeteria employees tested positive for staphylococcus, and one was identified as a carrier of dysentery. Four workers had undergone a falsified medical examination.
