Tengrinews.kz - A resident of Almaty has been arrested for stealing more than 21 tonnes of motor oil through a fraudulent logistics scheme, according to Polisia.kz.
The man posed as a logistics agent and accepted a contract for the international delivery of motor oil worth over 14 million tenge.
Instead of transporting the goods, he sold the entire shipment at a discounted price and pocketed the proceeds.
The oil changed hands multiple times before authorities tracked it down in Shymkent. It was found in possession of a new owner, who reportedly had no idea about the product’s illicit origins.
Investigators managed to trace the path of the stolen goods and identify the man behind the scheme. He has since been detained.
All the oil containers have been returned to their rightful owner.
Previously, a suspect accused of distributing a large batch of counterfeit U.S. dollars was detained in Atyrau.
