Tengrinews.kz - The akim (governor) of Atyrau Serik Shapkenov has provided updates on the situation regarding meat sales in the region.
During a briefing at the Central Communications Service, journalists noted that residents of Atyrau are hesitant to buy meat due to anthrax concerns.
"Since the detection of anthrax cases, the city’s livestock market was completely closed under quarantine by order of the city akim. All animals present at the site were registered and given special vaccinations," Shapkenov said.
The akim stated that the area remains under quarantine, with ongoing disinfection efforts and regular sampling.
"Additionally, 62 workers who were active at the site have been placed under monitoring. Unfortunately, two cases of anthrax among humans have been confirmed. Their condition is stable, and they are receiving all necessary medical care," he added.
Shapkenov assured that the anthrax outbreak would remain under the control of local authorities until fully resolved.
"Inspections are also being conducted at other meat trading locations, with samples being taken and safety measures strengthened. Livestock brought into the region from the West Kazakhstan and Aktobe regions, as well as those passing through to the Mangystau region, are under strict supervision," he concluded.
