The unexpected deterioration of the tank for heating and melting of different materials occurred on June 22 at 7:45 a.m. at the territory of Ulba Metallurgical Plant in East-Kazakhstan Oblast, causing a spill of liquid metal into the emergency drainage under the furnace, Tengrinews.kz reports citing press-service of East-Kazakhstan Oblast Emergency Department. The Department does not see any reasons for panic in relation to the accident.
According to the authority, the accident happened 10 minutes before completion of melting of a copper-berryllium alloy. It took 40 minutes to eliminate the spill. The operator immediately switched off the heating and evacuated the personnel. No casualties have been reported. The disruption of the technological process does not bear any threat to the citizens or cause polution to the city, the authorities confirm.
