Tengrinews.kz – It has been announced that the national carrier "Passenger Transportation" plans to launch new trains in 2026, as well as increase the frequency of some existing routes.
Details were provided by the organization’s press service.
Kostanay – Almaty
The company clarified that the launch of a new train on this route is scheduled for 2026.
“As part of the fleet renewal, a new Talgo train No. 119/120 on the Almaty – Kostanay route is planned,” the company promised.
Our editorial team had previously received multiple complaints about the current Almaty – Kostanay train (No. 43/44). For example, at the end of June, passengers reported that air conditioning was not working in the carriages during the heatwave. The carrier's press service explained that one of the carriages experienced a breakdown in the air conditioning system during the trip. It was also noted that “the fleet is being gradually updated.”
Currently, this route is served only by a private carrier.
Almaty – Petropavlovsk
The press service of "Passenger Transportation" also informed us that in 2026, the frequency of several trains will increase.
- Train No. 105/106 Almaty – Petropavlovsk will run every other day;
- Train No. 1/2 Almaty – Tashkent will run daily (using Talgo carriages).
“Ticket prices on these trains will remain at the level of other routes,” the company added.
It’s worth noting that Kazakhstani citizens had previously raised the issue of increasing the frequency of train No. 105/106 Almaty – Petropavlovsk. In October 2024, the Ministry of Transport stated that there were no such plans. However, nearly a year later, the situation has changed: it has now been confirmed that starting in 2026, the train will run every other day.
Earlier, the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) specified that train No. 105/106 covers the route in 22 hours and currently runs only once every four days.
