Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has published a warning on its website for residents of Astana and other cities.
The information concerns the air quality forecast for Wednesday.
“On 4 February, adverse meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Karaganda and Temirtau, and at night in Astana,” the statement says.
Adverse meteorological conditions in the form of air pollution are a combination of short-term meteorological factors (calm, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the surface layer of the atmosphere.
According to forecasters, Astana will see partly cloudy weather without precipitation. Southeasterly wind 3–8 m/s at night, 9–14 m/s during the day. Air temperature at night will be minus 19–21°C, during the day minus 3–5°C.
In Karaganda it will also be partly cloudy, with no precipitation forecast. Fog is expected at night and in the morning. Southeasterly to southerly wind 3–8 m/s. Air temperature at night minus 14–16°C, during the day minus 3–5°C.
At night in the east of the Karaganda region, light snow and drifting snow are possible. Fog is expected in the west, north, and east of the region. Southeasterly to southerly wind 9–14 m/s. Air temperature at night minus 11–16°C, in the north down to minus 21°C, in the south around minus 6°C; during the day minus 2–7°C, in the north down to minus 12°C.
