Kazhydromet warns residents of Astana and Almaty

Tengrinews.kz - Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities in Kazakhstan.

"On July 9, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in Uralsk, Almaty, and Aktobe, and at night – in Astana and Kostanay," the statement said.

Unfavorable weather conditions refer to a combination of short-term meteorological factors (such as calm weather, light wind, fog, or temperature inversions) that can lead to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layers of the atmosphere.

Inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air sits above colder air, effectively trapping it. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises, carrying pollutants away. But during an inversion, the colder air becomes "locked in" at the surface, and with it – exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollutants accumulate at ground level, especially in cities.
