Kazhydromet warns residents of Astana, Almaty and eight other cities

Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet has published an air quality warning on its website for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities.

The information concerns the air quality forecast for Wednesday.

“On March 18, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Kostanay, Pavlodar, Karaganda, Zhezkazgan, Balkhash, Temirtau, Uralsk, Aktobe, Almaty, and Astana,” the statement says.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions linked to air pollution are a combination of short-term weather factors — such as calm conditions, light wind, fog, and temperature inversion — that contribute to the buildup of harmful pollutants in the lower layer of the atmosphere.

According to forecasters, Astana is expected to have variable cloudiness with no precipitation. Fog at night and in the morning, with icy roads. West and northwest wind at 2–7 m/s. Air temperature: -7 to -9°C at night, +3 to +5°C during the day.

In Almaty — variable cloudiness, no precipitation. Fog at night and in the morning. Northwest wind at 3–8 m/s. Air temperature: +1 to +3°C at night, +11 to +13°C during the day.

In Aktobe — variable cloudiness, no precipitation, occasional fog. East wind at 2–7 m/s. Air temperature: -3 to -5°C at night, +4 to +6°C during the day.

In Zhezkazgan — variable cloudiness, no precipitation. Occasional fog. Northeast wind at 5–10 m/s. Air temperature: -2 to -4°C at night, +8 to +10°C during the day.

In Kostanay — variable cloudiness, no precipitation, fog. West and northwest wind at 2–7 m/s. Air temperature: -7 to -9°C at night, +3 to +5°C during the day.

In Karaganda — variable cloudiness, no precipitation, occasional fog. Icy roads. Northeast and north wind at 2–7 m/s. Air temperature: -8 to -10°C at night, 0 to +2°C during the day. In the Karaganda Region, the weather will also be dry. Fog is possible in the west, north, and south of the region. Roads may be icy. Northeast and north wind at 7–12 m/s. Air temperature: -5 to -10°C at night, -13 to -18°C in the east, -2°C in the south, 0 to +5°C during the day, and up to +9°C in the south.

In Pavlodar — variable cloudiness, no precipitation, fog. Northwest wind at 3–8 m/s. Air temperature: -5 to -7°C at night, +1 to +3°C during the day.
