Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet has published an air quality warning on its website for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities.
The information concerns the air quality forecast for Friday, March 20.
“On March 20, unfavorable meteorological conditions for air pollution are expected in the cities of Kostanay, Pavlodar, Karaganda, Temirtau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Ridder, Aktobe, Almaty, and Astana, and at night in Atyrau,” the statement says.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions associated with air pollution are a combination of short-term weather factors — such as calm conditions, light wind, fog, and temperature inversion — that contribute to the accumulation of harmful pollutants in the lower layer of the atmosphere.
According to forecasters, Astana is expected to have variable cloudiness on March 20, with no precipitation. Fog and icy conditions are expected. Southwest wind at 3–8 m/s. Air temperature: -8 to -10°C at night, +3 to +5°C during the day.
In Almaty, variable cloudiness is expected on March 20, with no precipitation. Northeast wind at 3–8 m/s. Air temperature: +1 to +3°C at night, +14 to +16°C during the day.
