Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Almaty.
“On August 12, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the city of Almaty, and at night in the city of Atyrau,” the statement said.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the surface layer of the atmosphere.
An inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air is located above cold air, effectively “covering” it. Normally, the air near the ground is warmer and rises, carrying away pollutants. During an inversion, cold air gets “trapped” below, along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates at ground level, especially in cities.

On August 12, Almaty will have partly cloudy skies with no precipitation. Westerly winds at 3–8 m/s. Overnight temperatures will be +21…+23°C, with extreme heat during the day at +35…+37°C.
