Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities in Kazakhstan.

“On July 18, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Aktobe, Almaty, and during the night in Astana,” the statement said.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions refer to a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the ground-level layer of the atmosphere.

Inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air lies above cold air, essentially "capping" it. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises and carries pollutants upward. But during an inversion, cold air is "trapped" at the surface along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollutants accumulate at ground level, especially in cities.

Weather in Astana

On July 18, the capital is expected to see partly cloudy skies. In the afternoon, rain, a dust storm, thunderstorm, and hail are forecast. Wind: southern, 3–8 m/s at night, 9–14 m/s during the day, with gusts of 15–20 m/s in the afternoon. Temperature: +16…+18°C at night, +32…+34°C during the day.

Weather in Almaty

On July 18, partly cloudy and dry weather is expected. Wind: southwest 3–8 m/s. Temperature: +22…+24°C at night, with extreme heat of +36…+38°C during the day.
