Kazhydromet warned residents of Astana, Almaty and five other cities

Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet has published a warning on its official website for residents of Astana, Almaty, and five other cities.

The information concerns the air quality forecast for the upcoming Tuesday.

"On May 26, adverse meteorological conditions are expected in Almaty, and overnight in the cities of Astana, Atyrau, Karaganda, Balkhash, Zhezkazgan, and Temirtau," the statement reads.

Adverse meteorological conditions referring to air pollution are a combination of short-term weather factors (calm winds, light breezes, fog, and temperature inversions) that facilitate the accumulation of harmful pollutants in the surface layer of the atmosphere.

According to meteorologists, Astana will see variable cloudiness with no precipitation. Winds will be southwesterly shifting to southeasterly, at 2-7 m/s at night and 7-12 m/s during the day. Air temperatures will range from 13-15°C at night to 27-29°C during the day.

In Almaty, variable cloudiness is expected with no precipitation. Southeasterly winds will blow at 3-8 m/s. Temperatures will be 11-13°C at night and 25-27°C during the day.

In Atyrau, variable cloudiness and no precipitation are expected, with a dust storm forecast for the afternoon. Winds will be southwesterly to westerly, at 0-5 m/s at night and 7-12 m/s during the day, with gusts reaching 15-18 m/s. Temperatures will be 16-18°C at night and 30-32°C during the day.

In Karaganda, variable cloudiness is forecast with no precipitation. Winds will be variable, at 2-7 m/s at night and 5-10 m/s during the day. Temperatures will be 12-14°C at night and 27-29°C during the day. In the north of the Karaganda region, light rain and thunderstorms are expected during the day, while the east will see rain and thunderstorms. Variable winds will blow at 7-12 m/s. Temperatures across the region will range from 12-17°C at night (8°C in the east) to 27-32°C during the day (24°C in the east).

In Zhezkazgan, variable cloudiness is expected with no precipitation. Southeasterly winds will blow at 2-7 m/s at night and 7-12 m/s during the day. Temperatures will be 15-17°C at night and 29-31°C during the day.
