Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Almaty and other cities in Kazakhstan.
"On July 17, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Ust-Kamenogorsk, Almaty, Atyrau, and Aktobe," the statement said.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions refer to a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layer of the atmosphere.
An inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air traps colder air beneath it. Normally, warm air near the ground rises and carries pollutants upward. But during an inversion, the cold air gets "locked" below, along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates at ground level, especially in urban areas.
Weather in Almaty
On July 17, the city will experience partly cloudy skies and no precipitation. A southwesterly wind of 3–8 meters per second is expected. Air temperatures will be 23–25°C at night and a sweltering 35–37°C during the day.
