Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has published a warning on its official website for residents of Astana, Almaty and other cities.
The notice concerns the air quality forecast for Thursday.
“On 8 January 2026, in the cities of Karaganda, Temirtau, Balkhash, Zhezkazgan, Aktobe, Almaty, and at night in Astana, unfavourable meteorological conditions are expected,” the statement says.
Adverse meteorological conditions in terms of air pollution are a combination of short-term meteorological factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the near-surface layer of the atmosphere.
