Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Astana.
“On August 4, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected at night in the cities of Atyrau and Astana,” the statement reads.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions occur when short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower atmospheric layer.
A temperature inversion is a weather phenomenon where warm air is above cold air, essentially “trapping” it. Normally, warmer air near the ground rises and disperses pollutants, but during an inversion, cold air remains locked below, along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates at ground level, especially in urban areas.
