Kazhydromet issues warning for Almaty residents

Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Almaty.

“On July 28, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in Almaty, and at night in Atyrau,” the statement said.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layers of the atmosphere.

Inversion is a weather phenomenon where warm air lies above cold air, essentially “trapping” it. Normally, the air near the ground is warmer and rises, carrying away pollutants. But during an inversion, cold air remains trapped below along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke, leading to pollution buildup near the ground, especially in cities.
