Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has once again issued a warning for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities in Kazakhstan.
“On July 16, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Karaganda, Temirtau, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Aktobe, and Almaty, and at night in Atyrau, Kostanay, and Astana,” the statement reads.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term weather factors (calm winds, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layers of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air sits above colder air, essentially trapping it. Normally, warm air near the ground rises, carrying pollutants away. But during an inversion, cold air remains near the surface, along with exhaust fumes, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates near the ground—especially in urban areas.
