Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has once again issued a warning for residents of Astana.
“On August 5, 2025, adverse meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Aktobe and, at night, in Atyrau and Astana,” the statement reads.
It is worth noting that on August 4, forecasters had already warned Astana residents about unfavorable weather conditions.
Reference: Adverse meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term meteorological factors (calm, light winds, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the surface layer of the atmosphere.
An inversion is a weather phenomenon where warm air sits above cold air, essentially trapping it. Normally, the air near the ground is warmer and rises, carrying pollution upward. During an inversion, however, cold air is “locked” below, along with exhaust, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollutants accumulate at ground level, especially in cities.
