Kazhydromet issued air pollution warning for Astana and Shymkent

"On February 28, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions for air pollution are expected in Karaganda, Temirtau, Zhezkazgan, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Semey, Shymkent, Ridder, and Astana," the statement read.

Unfavorable meteorological conditions refer to a combination of short-term weather factors (calm, light wind, fog, inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layer of the atmosphere.

On February 28, the capital will experience partly cloudy skies with no precipitation. Fog is expected at times. Winds will be from the west and southwest at 2-7 m/s. Temperatures will range from -18 to -20°C at night and -6 to -8°C during the day.

Shymkent will have partly cloudy skies with no precipitation. Fog is expected at night and in the morning. Winds will shift from the southeast to the southwest at 3-8 m/s. Temperatures will range from -4 to -6°C at night and +6 to +8°C during the day.
