Tengrinews.kz – Kazhydromet has issued a warning for residents of Astana, Almaty, and other cities in Kazakhstan.
“On July 22, 2025, unfavorable meteorological conditions are expected in the cities of Aktobe, Almaty, and at night — in Kostanay and Astana,” the statement reads.
It is noted that on July 21, meteorologists had already warned residents of Astana and Almaty about unfavorable weather conditions.
Unfavorable meteorological conditions are a combination of short-term atmospheric factors (calm, light wind, fog, temperature inversion) that contribute to the accumulation of harmful (polluting) substances in the lower layer of the atmosphere.
Inversion is a weather phenomenon in which warm air settles above cooler air, essentially “trapping” it. Normally, warmer air near the surface rises, carrying away pollutants. But during an inversion, the colder air remains at the ground level along with all the exhaust, dust, and smoke. As a result, pollution accumulates near the surface — especially in cities.
