Tengrinews.kz — The press service of RSE Kazhydromet has commented on circulating claims that so-called “acid clouds” have allegedly formed over Iran and could reach the countries of Central Asia.
Earlier, social media reports claimed that US and Israeli strikes on Iran’s oil infrastructure had caused large-scale fires at oil refineries and oil storage facilities.
As a result, a toxic cloud was allegedly formed, which, under the influence of air currents, began drifting toward Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and China.
It was also reported that “black rain” had been observed in Tehran, along with high concentrations of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen compounds, and soot. In addition, the Iranian Red Crescent allegedly warned of the risk of acid precipitation that could cause chemical burns to the skin and lung damage.
Kazhydromet stated that the information about “acid clouds” over Iran that could supposedly reach Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries is not supported by scientific data or observation results.
“Acid precipitation is formed from sulfur and nitrogen oxides entering the atmosphere mainly from industry, energy and transport, and usually occurs near sources of pollution. When air masses are transported over long distances, the concentration of these substances decreases significantly due to natural atmospheric processes.
According to monitoring data, there are no signs of transfer of such pollutants towards Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries,” the statement said.
In this regard, agency specialists recommended relying on official data from national meteorological and environmental services and refraining from spreading unverified information.
