Tengrinews.kz - Kazakh schoolchildren will be taught how to use artificial intelligence (AI) as part of a new educational standard, Vice President of the National Academy of Education under the Ministry of Enlightenment Ruslan Karatabanov announced.

The standard is set to be introduced and scaled up in 2026.

"This standard takes into account modern demands, including the development of artificial intelligence. AI is one of the key drivers of global progress, and it cannot be ignored. There are concerns that AI may replace certain professions, turning some into 'veteran professions.' However, new specialties will emerge as well. In any case, AI is primarily considered a tool today," Karatabanov said at the Palace of Schoolchildren ahead of a ministry board meeting.

According to him, children must be taught how to use AI.

"At the tool level, we need to educate children on how to utilize AI. That’s why every subject will incorporate AI-based technologies. For example, biology, chemistry, and physics will feature virtual labs, language studies will use AI-powered communication apps, and geography will integrate information systems. It is crucial to understand that AI is not just about generative models, which are currently in the spotlight, but also non-generative technologies that are also part of the educational process," he added.

Previously, it was announced that Kazakhstan has developed a strategy and law on artificial intelligence.
