Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstanis are being warned about new tricks used by scammers. This time they pose as employees of a door-entry (intercom) company, according to KTK.
The fraudsters offer to replace keys for free or even activate keyless access. In return, they ask the victim to dictate a code received via SMS.
The new scheme came to light after scammers called a resident of Abai Region. They insisted that the service was new and fully official. But the vigilant woman refused to give the code and instead called her intercom company's office—where she learned that no such service existed.
Police urge residents to be extremely cautious and not trust such calls. Citizens are asked to warn friends and relatives and under no circumstances share any codes with strangers.
“Criminals present themselves as employees of intercom service companies and offer residents ‘additional keys’ or ‘access by personal code’ to their building entrance. The Abai Region Police Department urges citizens to remain vigilant: no such services exist. Scammers extract personal data and may use it for illegal activities,” said Dina Amrenova, head of the Information Policy Department of the Abai Region Police.
