"The total sales since the start of the program amount to 222,680 gold bars with a total weight of 7.9 tons," the National Bank emphasizes.

At the same time, in 2024, the National Bank sold more than 47 thousand gold bars to banks and exchange offices.

"At the end of 2024, the National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan sold 47,395 measured bars with a total weight of 1.7 tons to second-tier banks and individual non-bank exchange offices," the report says.

The largest sales volumes of measured gold bars were in three regions:

  • Almaty – 32,735 units (69% of the total volume);
  • Shymkent – ​​5,200 units (11%);
  • Karaganda – 2,209 units (5%).

"In 2024, second-tier banks and individual non-bank exchange offices sold 71,106 measured bars with a total weight of 2.5 tons to the population, taking into account the buyback," the report notes.

It is indicated that 10-gram bars are in the greatest demand among buyers, accounting for 25 percent of sales (54,875 pieces). Next come 5-gram bars (49,145 pieces, 22%), 100-gram (47,943 pieces, 22%), 20-gram (40,843 pieces, 18%), and 50-gram (29,874 pieces, 13%).

Earlier, The National Bank of Kazakhstan plans to sell from $550 to $650 million from the National Fund in February to allocate transfers to the national budget.

"The National Bank will continue to adhere to the flexible exchange rate regime, which eliminates the accumulation of imbalances and ensures the safety of gold and foreign exchange reserves," the monetary regulator concluded.
