Tengrinews.kz - Four people drowned in reservoirs in the Karaganda region alone over the holiday weekend. Three of them went under water in the Samarkand reservoir in the city of Temirtau.
According to the press service of the regional Department of Emergency Situations, the drowned were fishermen. They fell through the ice and were unable to swim out of the icy water.
"The tragic incident occurred due to a sharp warming of the weather and thinning of the ice, as well as a gross violation of safety rules - the victims were not wearing life jackets. Moreover, they were in a dangerous zone, despite the installed warning signs. Their bodies have already been removed from the water," the department's press service reported.
A similar situation occurred on the Sherubay-Nura reservoir in the village of Topar, where a search is underway for another man who did not return from fishing. The Department of Emergency Situations provided a video of the work of divers who are looking for a body.
"The Karaganda Region Department of Emergency Situations appeals to all residents of the region. Currently, the ice on water bodies is extremely unstable and poses a mortal danger. Going out on the ice at night, in poor visibility, as well as during periods of ice formation and ice melting is prohibited. Despite warnings, people continue to risk their lives. Remember that going out on the ice in such conditions can lead to tragic events. Take care of yourself and your loved ones!" the department urged.
