Kazakhstan plans to produce 2.8 billion liters of biofuel this year, Novosti Kazakhstan reports. The figure is to be brought up to 3.08 billion liters by 2012, growing steadily to 3.22 billion by 2014. Kazakh Parliament passed a law establishing a regulatory framework for the country’s fledging biofuel industry in October 2010. The legislation is intended to stimulate production of biofuels and prevent trafficking of biofuel products. And since food sources are used in the production, the legislation also seeks to ensure adequate food supplies while accommodating increased biofuel production.
